This 5.875 x 8.5inch, 315 page hardcover book with dust wrapper is the assumed first edition of this title although there is no clear indication of that with no date on the title page and no statement on the copyright page. This copy is in near fine condition, with the blue-grey cloth over black cloth back-strip with the white lettering on the spine ?As New.? The interior text has only the previous owner?s inked name on the front paste-down but with no further markings or damage to the text block. The cloth covers have just a touch of wear at the corners and the jacket has some chips missing from the spine extremities and corners, and a one inch closed tear at a spine fold. The jacket shows no price clipping and no printed price. This book was popular in the post-World War Two years as Mulden had been a widely-recognized cartoonist for the American military forces and the military newspaper Stars and Stripes . . . and his work offers a depiction of a return to civilian life and the pressing problems in American culture at that time and the insights remain revealing today. This book?s focus might be summarized with the cartoon on the final page of the text . . . showing two young children walking barefoot through a leveled city with destroyed military equipment lying about . . . as one says to the other . . . ?
