Two pages, in ink, on recto and verso of octavo sheet of letterhead, with two small corrections. Ca. 200+ words. Very good. A warm letter of thanks to Willis Birchman, artist and compiler of FACES & FACTS BY AND ABOUT 26 CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS (1937). Brooks writes: "I am very grateful to you for sending on the caricature in which I find my features boldly rendered. It suggests that my hair had experienced a brushing, which, as my son informs me, is far from characteristic; but I am proud of the nose, which more than does me justice and you have expressed my unfulfilled ideal in regard to the walrus moustache . But I am troubled about the work itself. Should not the original be in your possession? It seems to me that I should have only a reproduction of it. This strikes me as along the line of the fitness of things, and, although I should greatly like to keep it, I think it is more in accordance with aesthetic [?] matters that I should send it back to you . my feelings are quite personal, and I am deeply obliged to you for your kindness."
