Very rare tract, only two copies located in WorldCat, one in Switzerland and the other at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (neither library ascribes an author). The twin questions posed and answered are (a) what are, and whence come, the current confusions and general dangers for Religion and the State?; and (b) by what means can they be remedied? (p. 4). The author's basic stance is that the Enlightenment is to blame for the turmoil and press censorship is needed to control it, but it is not clear whether he is being ironic or not. Either way, the book itself was reportedly among those banned by the Viennese censor almost as soon as it came out (Allgemaine Literatur-Zeitung, no 144, 11 November 1797). PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 8vo, 69 pp., contemporary speckled boards with paper spine label, lightly rubbed, old Bavarian library stamp on pastedown and early ownership inscription 'F.F.
