A very good full leather binding by Asprey. 5.0" x 3.0" x 0.75". pp.viii]/pp.120. Polished brown morocco with gilt filet border. Smooth spine with gilt decoration and gilt title: "French And Latin Quotations". Edges lightly rubbed and corners bumped. All page edges gilt. Inner gilt filet. Binder's stamp to verso of the base of the front board: "Asprey, 166 New Bond St. W." Pale brown marbled endpapers. No title-pages, date of publication from other books in matching binding. Hardcover. Condition: Good. 8 Volumes with wooden shelf, including Atlas, Gazetteer of The World, English Quotations and Proverbs, French and Latin Quotations, Classics and Mythology, French and English Dictionary, Encyclopedia, and A Companion Dictionary. Pocket sized editions measuring approximately 12.5x8.5cm. Each volume bound in green leather, with gilt lettering to the spine, plus gilt ruled borders to the front and rear panels, with Houghton & Gunn & Asprey stamped in gilt to the turn ins, all page edges gilt, the top edges dulled and worn, others bright. The leather has faded to brown to the spines and also to the front and back covers, heavily to one volume, where the wooden shelf only partially blocked out the sun. Leather still in nice condition despite the fading, some wear to the spine ends, occasional marks and a few scratches. Marbled endpapers a little spotted, each volume with Reference Library - Houghton & Gunn, for title pages, most are undated, but the French and English Dictionary volume shows 1905. pages to the English and French Dictionary partly tanned, pages with an occasional mark, the dictionary volume has more wear generally and the leather pull tab is fragile, also with marks to the edge of the page block. The English Quotations volume has a previous owners name in pen to the title page plus ticks to pages. The wooden shelf has a little wear to the edges, dulled in places. Overall a good set.
