PART I: 1899, printed by John Bellows of Gloucester for the Author, 'Forty Copies Only', xii + 56pp, 20 hand numbered plates + 3 illustrations in the text, uncut, errata slip loosely inserted, mauve cloth boards, gilt titles. The contents are in very good condition, with some foxing to the end papers and to some of the plates. The boards are faded around the edges and are a little worn & marked. PART II: 1909, printed by John Bellows of Gloucester for the Author, 'Forty Copies Only', this one numbered 2, ix + 50pp, 9 hand numbered plates, uncut, the Prefatory Note addressed from 'Shelsey, Kew Gardens', mauve cloth boards, gilt titles. The contents are in very good condition, with some foxing to the end papers. The boards are faded around the edges and are a little worn & marked. When we acquired the books the front board to Volume I was detached, this has new been re-affixed by our bookbinder. Sir Arthur Herbert Church (1834 - 1915) was a celebrated British chemist, an expert on pottery and stones and a talented artist. These two autobiographical volumes record his public work, his scientific work, his family background, his time at the Royal College of Chemistry, his work as a Professor at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester etc etc. Rare books, only four complete sets are recorded on COPAC.
