The author of the book was born in 1949, and was given up at birth (not by choice) under rough circumstances. Arnold Bennington was placed in "care" by social services, and grew up in a variety of foster homes/institutions. This is the story of his search for his mother and family. Some of the book is very hard to read (brutal letters describing the mother ) and it gives the reader a real feel for what was reality for unwed mothers in that era, and the end result is a person who was raised in an intitution, and suffered as a result of this. The wonderful thing is that he did not give up and did manage to connect to his family.
