Synopsis: This fascinating volume details two millenia of Arctic exploration driven by a hunger for commercial routes to the orient, colonization, exploitation of the natural resources of North America, and the pursuit of fame and glory. Included are the contributions of the Norse, Irish, Iberians, Germans, Danes, British, French and Americans. It describes the privations of the expeditions of Munk, DeLong, and Greely; the mystery of the Franklin expeditions; the 'race for the Pole'; and, the eventual completion of the Northwest Passage. It reflects the transition in the North from Viking 'longboat', through the age of sail, to the era of the submarine and airplane.

About the Author: The Author: Miller Graf is a professor at Bradford College in Massachusetts. He also serves as an adjunct lecturer for Northern Essex Community College, and Lowell University in Massachusetts, as well as for Golden Gate University, California, and Nova University in Florida. A retired USAF officer, his background includes two years of study at McGill University, Canada; a B.A. in Geology from Boston University, Massachusetts; an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts; and a D.P.A. from Nova University, Florida. Arctic Journeys combines his interest in geology, passion for history, long experience flying over the region of the «Northwest Passage», and several years managing USAF facilities in Greenland.
