Describes the life and forty year career of Andy Griffith best known for his television personas as Sheriff Andy Taylor and Attorney Ben Matlock
From the Author:
Griffith Guards Hides His Privacy Well ....
For the record, this biography -- the ONLY ONE ON GRIFFITH TO DATE, by the way -- was one of the "bibles" used for the A&E Biography special on Griffith, so much of the information shown there appeared here first. I also contributed facts and information to this special and recieved a credit at the end of the show. Griffith was repeatedly contacted for an interview, but did not bother responding before or after the book's publication. Many people spoke to me "off the record" for fear of making him angry since they know he guards his privacy well. Of course, when the book did appear, more associates were willing to discuss Andy once they saw I was playing fair with the book and presenting a balanced portrait. I hope to one day do a revised version of the text to include interviews and two more folders of facts I have gathered since the book was published over three years ago. I was in the curious position when writing this biography of trying to bring information to light while still respecting Andy's privacy. Not an easy task -- but I wanted a "clean" bio that you could give to your grandmother to read. I seem to have succeeded in that regard, at the loss of printing lots of "dirt" on Mr. Griffith. The truth is, there's not much dirt there to print. Andy Griffith is no saint, but then again, who is in this day and age?
