Vol. XII No. 613 Approximately18-3/4 x 11-3/8 inches. one sheet gray paper printed in black both sides. This issue contains one of General Washington's official letters dated New York, April 23, 1776. In the letter Washington responds to a request by Congress "some considerable time ago" regarding the pay his aids-de-camp receives; he had replied to Congress about the matter since he assumed it might give them more pay. Since nothing has happened he "takes the liberty, unsolicited by, and unknown to my aids-de-camp, to inform your honourable [sic] body that their pay is not by any means equal to their trouble and confinement." Washington goes on ". and no hours for recreation, makes a material odds. Knowing this, and at the same time how inadequate the pay is, I can scarce find inclination to impose the necessary duties of their office upon them. ." There are five more letters by Washington published here; the entire front page contains letters from him.The verso has advertisements advertising land, brandy, "Nankeens" for sale, collection attempts, as well as a Fox Hunter Stud horse. Faint browning, slight rubbing left margin, a near fine copy. Bookseller Inventory # 30798
