An album of unused Dutch postcards dated 1899 and associated with a cyling tour of Holland by a Mary Garnons Williams. Album size - 25.5 x 21 cm. , pp. 24 and containing 48 b&w and colour postcards. Condition of postcards - Fine ; all postcards in mounts on the pages and removable, all very clean, no foxing, no inscriptions. Condition of album - Good plus ; contents clean, pages and paste-downs show shome tanning around the edges, inscription on the front paste-down "Mary C. Garnons Williams. Holland 1899. In company with Nau, Asracel [ ? ] & Lilla " ; on the rear paste-down is a brief diary of the tour in Holland, made by train and bicycle, with each day showing a list of places visited and mode of transport used, the binding is firm from a recent refurbishment (very well done) ; the covering of the book is a dark green textured cloth with a floral illustration in black and gilt lettering on the front ; fore-edge corners show some wear but are firm, boards' edges in good condition, back quite marked/stained but the cloth remains very sound, the spine is complete with the album having a recent re-backing with the old spine laid on such that the new spine is visible only in small areas at the ends, front and back hinges are very sound, the front has a few very minor marks, the gilt title (" Groet uit den Vreemde" is complete but dulled. Please see photos for indications of condition and contents. Mary Garnons Williams family tree appears to be based in the South Wales area around Brecon-Llandovery area. This album, in addition to containing a collection of unused postcards from the period, is unusual in being a record of a cycling holiday made apparently by a solo female cyclist from Britain in company with three other riders from Holland.
