Framed black-and-white photograph under glass of William Sterling Cole, Bourke B. Hickenlooper, John Bricker, and others conducting hearings presumably as the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy of the 83rd Congress (1953-1954) . The photograph is inscribed in white ink to the previous owner and signed by Sterling Cole, chairman of the committee; Hickenlooper, vice chairman; and Lewis L. Strauss, chairman of the Atomic Energy Committee. The photo is in very good condition with minor wear and is mounted on a lightly foxed white background. The simple black wooden frame appears to be original. Penciled in on the reverse of the picture is "Heller Committee Atomic. A Republican representative from New York elected to Congress in 1932, Cole served as chairman of the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy for the 83rd Congress, resigning in 1957 to become director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, till 1961. Strauss, serving on the original AEC till 1950 and later as AEC chairman till 1958, advised President Eisenhower on atomic energy policy and the effects of fallout.
