New York: Scribners, 1895. New illustrated edition (1901) with eight splendid color plates plus vignettes by Arthur J. Keller. Hint of fray at top edge of spine, else Very Good or better ornate art nouveau boards (gold flowers and knotted vines on rich brown cloth), without dustwrapper as issued. This is by far the best edition of this classic occult romance. Occult powers, appearance of Vishnu, fate, magic. This was adapted in 1922 as the Rudolph Valentino film "The Young Rajah." Mitchell is credited with the discovery of the great illustrator Charles Dana Gibson, who found his earliest publication in issues of LIFE MAGAZINE which Mitchell co-founded in 1883.
