AHNAS EL MEDINEH (HERACLEOPOLIS MAGNA) and THE TOMB OF PAHERI AT EL KAB; Bound with DESHASHEH 1897
Bound together between black leather and blue cloth are the 11th and 15th "Memoirs" of the Egypt Exploration Fund. First title page is for Ahnas El Medineh and The Tomb of Pateri, dated 1894. Second title page for Deshasheh by Sir Flinders Petrie dated 1898. The Tomb of Pateri lacks plates 3 - 8 which would have been illustrations of the walls of the tomb. Four of the Pateri plates including the first fold-out are still present and also illustrate the walls of the tomb. All other illustration plate content present for both of these volumes bound together as one. Some of the plates are impressive photographic ones, and the volume on Deshasheh has photos of "minor objects" with the text as well. Spine with five raised bands. Lettering and decorations in gilt. Title on spine reads "MEDINEH AND DESHASHEH" but only author shown on spine is Naville, with E.E.F. for Egypt Exploration fund below his name. Contents still tight in the binding but front hinge is broken although holding by straps. Could be further reinforced with a minor repair. All text pages and Illustration plates clean. Marbled endpapers. Lower corner of front endpaper with tip chipped. Corners and edges of binding worn. blue cloth of the covers still a vibrant dark blue and the black spine leather only a little scuffed. An impressive volume of ancient Egypt conent, and there is also an appendix on the Byzantine era sculptures found at Ahnas with some photo plates of these sculptures. Twenty one (of 27) plates present in the first part of book, and 37 plates follow Deshasheh by Petrie (with contribution on inscriptions by F. LL. Griffith. Folio, 40, 36, 52pp + Plates.
