Shimeall was tremendously interested in the "times and seasons," and profoundly believed that time was waxing late. In his Age of the World he first deals with the foibles of atheist, infidel, and antiquarian, and the various specious philosophies of life and creation, revealing his remarkably extensive reading. Going beyond Faberís theory that the six days of creation were six long periods of time followed by the seventh-the present ageóhe reduces all these periods to exactly six thousand years each, 36,000 years, with the seventh the supposed period of Godís "rest" from the creation of Adam and Eve to the millennium. A historically important book from an advocate of the literal translation of the Bible as to the beginning of the World. Chipped along the spine and missing small pieces at the top and foot of the spine. This does not affect the title. Church library book plate on front pastedown and no other indications it is ex. lib. There is some foxing on the first few and last few pages and scattered throughout. Overall, the Book is tight and Good. Scarce. 364 pages and errata note tipped in after last page. Hardbound in tiny-ribbed brown cloth-covered boards. Blind stamped embellishments on the front and rear covers and gold-stamped spine title. Bookseller Inventory # 16715
