The complex is magnificently situated at the top of a 500 m. cliff, and less than a half km. from the Thai - Cambodian border. The area has been the focus of dispute between the two countries for more than a century; forcibly occupied by the Thais in the mid 20th century and subsequently returned to Cambodia by the International Court of Justice, the site is now designated as a UNESCO World Heritage location but remains a periodic flashpoint of violence. The present volume is a detailed and beautifully illustrated study of the site, its history, architectural and sculptural remains.
