Few landscape designers are more admired than Belgium's Jacques Wirtz (born 1924), as evidenced by the huge success of The Wirtz Gardens, which surveyed 57 private and public gardens designed by Wirtz, many in collaboration with his two sons, Martin and Peter, in locations around the world. De bekende Belgische landschapsarchitecten Jacques en zijn zonen Martin en Peter hebben enkele van de mooiste Europese tuinen ont-worpen. Ze zijn vooral bekend voor hun indrukwekkende beheersing van de ruimte en de sterke sculpturale vormen. Hun werk combineert moderne esthetiek met respect voor traditie en voor het karakter van een plaats. Hun huis in Schoten (in de buurt van Antwerpen) is een vroegere tuinierswoning die hoort bij een achtiende-eeuws landgoed. Daar hebben ze in hun eigen tuin een laboratorium gecreëerd waar ze op huiselijke schaal kunnen experimenteren. Fotograaf Marco Valdivia fotografeerde eerder meer dan honderd Wirtz-tuinen.
