Synopsis
De Nederlandse decoratieve kunsten van het midden van de 18de eeuw stonden in het teken van de rococo. Deze speelse, grillige stijl is in Frankrijk het eerst tot bloei gekomen en heeft vervolgens bijna alle landen in Europa veroverd. Ook Nederland raakte in de ban van de modieuze buitenlandse stroming. Dit boek toont meer dan 200 van de mooiste kunstwerken die in Nederland in rococo-stijl zijn gemaakt: interieurs, meubelen, portretten, voorwerpen van goud, zilver, porselein en aardewerk, beelden, behangsels en ontwerptekeningen. Vele daarvan worden hier voor het eerst in prachtige foto's en met uitvoerige beschrijvingen gepresenteerd. Dit nieuwe overzicht laat zien dat het Nederlandse rococo gevarieerder, spannender en internationaler is dan tot op heden werd beseft. De teksten zijn geschreven door specialisten van de afdeling Beeldhouwkunst en Kunstnijverheid van het Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
