Anne Frank's The Diary of a Young Girl is among the most enduring documents of the twentieth century. Since its publication in 1947, Anne Frank's story has become familiar to millions all over the world, and remains a beloved and deeply admired testament to the indestructible nature of the human spirit.

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

The Definitive Edition

Included in this Definitive Edition are diary entries previously omitted from the original, passages which reinforce the fact that Anne was first and foremost a teenage girl, not a remote and flawless symbol. She fretted over her emerging sexuality; often found herself in disagreement with the adults around her; and veered between the carefree nature of a child and the full-fledged sorrow of an adult living under extraordinary conditions and unbearable strain. Anne emerges more triumphantly and heart-breakingly human, more vulnerable, and more vital than ever.

Anne Frank and her family hid in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse for two years in an effort to escape the horrors of Nazi occupation. Only thirteen when her family went into the Secret Annex, she reveals her daily life as the world around them succumbed to the worst horror the modern world had seen, facing hunger, the threat of discovery and death, estrangement from the outside world, and above all, the boredom, the petty misunderstandings, and the frustrations of living in such confined quarters.

A timeless story rediscovered by each new generation, The Diary of a Young Girl stands without peer, and acclaimed actress Winona Ryder brings this unforgettable young woman to life in a stunning performance for listeners of all ages to cherish.

Review:
"The new edition reveals a new depth to Anne's dreams, irritations, hardship, and passions...There may be no better way to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the end of World War II than to reread The Diary of a Young Girl", " a testament to an indestructivle nobility of spirit in the face of pure evil." --"Chicago Tribune""From the Paperback edition."

It is written by a 13 year old girl (when she started writing). An incredible book depicting different shades of World War-II. It was never written intentionally to get printed because it was a "Diary of a Young Girl" which she received on her 13th birthday and therefore she started writing in it. It contains entries for about 2 years. After the Nazis Occupation when it was announced by Dutch Government to make public the accounts of sufferings. After listening to that announcement on Radio, she dreamed of publishing her diary after war was over and for that she rewrote and edited it many time --Udit Sethi Feb 8, 2012

This book is a must read for everyone. While we all have heard about the world war II, this book gives a totally new insight into another side of the war. The diary starts before the war begun, and ends abruply days before anne and the residents of the "secret annexe" were arrested. Unfortunately only her father survived but anne still lives in her books. The diary has quite interesting accounts of the problems and difficulties they faced during the years of their hiding. It also provides a great understanding of what was going through the minds of a teenager. How she changed in the yea... --Sougata Dec 10, 2011
From the Back Cover:
Restored in this Definitive Edition are diary entries that had been omitted from the original edition. These passages, which constitute 30 percent more material, reinforce the fact that Anne was first and foremost a teenage girl, not a remote and flawless symbol. She fretted about, and tried to cope with, her own emerging sexuality. Like many young girls, she often found herself in disagreement with her mother. And like any teenager, she veered between the carefree nature of a child and the full-fledged sorrow of an adult. Anne emerges more human, more vulnerable, and more vital than ever. Anne Frank and her family, fleeing the horrors of Nazi occupation, hid in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse for two years. She was thirteen when the family went into the Secret Annex, and in these pages she grows to be a young woman and a wise observer of human nature as well. With unusual insight she reveals the relations between eight people living under extraordinary conditions, facing hunger, the everpresent threat of discovery and death, complete estrangement from the outside world, and above all, the boredom, the petty misunderstandings, and the frustrations of living under such unbearable strain, in such confined quarters. A timeless story rediscovered by each new generation. The Diary of a Young Girl stands without peer. For both young readers and adults it continues to bring to life this young woman, who for a time survived the worst horror the modern world had seen - and who remained triumphantly and heartbreakingly human throughout her ordeal. For those who know and love Anne Frank, The Definitive Edition is a chance to discover her anew. For readers who have not yet encountered her, thisis the edition to cherish.

Book Description Soft cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. This book is the real diary of a teenage Jewish girl named Anne Frank. The Diary begins on Anne's 13th birthday on 12 June 1942 when she receives it as a birthday present and ends when Anne is fifteen years old. It focuses on the life and world of Anne Frank who is forced to go into hiding with her family in Amsterdam to avoid German persecution during World War II. The Frank family is forced to take this difficult decision when the Nazi police send Anne's sister a call-up notice to be deported to a concentration camp. The Diary tells us about the persecution of Jews by the Nazis in war-ridden Europe from the viewpoint of a young Jewish girl. Anne Frank's diary highlights her dreams, love, despair, emotional conflict and never ending optimism even when the odds are stacked heavily against Anne and her family. The most important message in this book is that people have the right to live in freedom. Seller Inventory # 110
