Jaime Sabines (Tuxtla Gutiérrez,1926-México, D.F., 1999) es uno de los poetas mexicanos más importantes del siglo XX. Poeta imprescindible para miles de lectores en todos los países de lengua hispana, a lo largo de su vida fue distinguido con varios reconocimientos: Premio Chiapas 1959 -otorgado por el Ateneo de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas-, Premio Xavier Villaurrutia 1973, Premio Elías Sourasky 1982, Premio Nacional de Literatura 1983, Premio Juchimán de Plata 1986, Presea de la Ciudad de México 1991, Medalla Belisario Domínguez 1994 y el Premio Mazatlán de Literatura 1996, entre otros. El carácter coloquial y comprometido de su poesía, así como su conmovedora claridad, lo convirtieron en uno de los poetas más reconocidos y admirados de México.
