The edition presented to your attention, published in 2009, is a new revised version of the textbook "English Grammar: Reference and Practice." Our textbook was created based on classic works on English grammar published in Russia, as well as textbooks by British and American authors who adhere to the communicative approach in language teaching. However, many years of classroom experience suggested a number of changes and additions that, without disrupting the structure of the textbook, significantly enhance its effectiveness. First of all, the textbook has been supplemented with new communicative exercises that involve creating and applying grammatical models in appropriate speech situations. To ensure the psychological comfort of the learning process, lengthy, cumbersome exercises have been reduced. Some exercises are accompanied by illustrations, which also make it user-friendly. Some theoretical chapters of the textbook have been refined and expanded. The new edition includes 16 thematic sections that provide general information on each topic and explain special cases of the use of grammatical models. The goal of this textbook is to present in an accessible form the main features of the English grammatical structure necessary for practical use. The structure of the textbook is based on two principles: the comparison of grammatical models of Russian and English and the differentiation of similar, but essentially different, grammatical structures of the English language for Russian speakers. Tables, diagrams, and models that systematize the material in the sections should contribute to better assimilation of the material. This edition is intended for school and gymnasium students, as well as students of non-language higher education institutions with advanced English studies.
