First published in 1984, this exceptionally designed book established Gilles Peress' reputation as a photojournalist. The reissue of "Telex Iran" in 1997 shows that these photos only gain impact with Iran's continuing role as a key player in the Middle East.

This study grew out of a trip the author took to Iran in 1981 during the famous hostage drama. Deeply stirred, sometimes repelled by what he experienced during that trip, Peress communicated his thoughts by telex to a few friends back home. These messages function as a parallel commentary to the highly personal photographs the author took at the same time.
