Synopsis

This book introduces the latest of the certified Java application servers from the open source community: Apache Geronimo in versions 2.0 and 2.1. At the same time, the special features of the IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS CE) based on it are also discussed.

The main focus of the book is on the configuration and expansion of the server. It explains the basic concepts and tools needed for management. It also describes the steps in developing and distributing Java EE applications with Geronimo. To run existing applications with Geronimo, migration to and from other application servers and integration into complex environments are explained. Also covered are advanced topics such as scalability, availability, troubleshooting, performance, and tuning. The book is rounded off with a brief reference of the commands and an annotated list of sample applications in the appendix.

The book is primarily aimed at administrators of Java application servers; they are taught in detail the practical use of Geronimo and migration there. It is also suitable for Java EE developers, learning to deploy the server more efficiently in development and troubleshoot faster errors.

Java knowledge and experience in developing enterprise Java applications is required.
