Synopsis

Arthur Freud (1882-1973) originated from Hungarian Brod in Moravia. During his studies of German studies in Vienna, he was a member of the academic association Theodor Herzl and employee of the magazine "Unsere Hoffnung. Monthly writing for the more mature Jewish youth." After his doctorate in 1906, he taught in Gorizia and Trieste. From 1920 to 1927 he was editor of the Zionist »Wiener Morgenzeitung« edited by Robert Stricker. After their end, he traveled Europe on behalf of the Keren Hajessod. He fled to Palestine in 1939 and lived in Jerusalem until his death in 1973. His life's work, a book on the history of the British Mandate in Palestine, remained as unpublished as his memories that make up the core of the book here. Freud's memories illuminate the history of Central European Zionism until World War II, ending with the author's arrival in Palestine in December 1939. In the book is also an essay by Armin A. Wallas on Arthur Freud.
