Synopsis

A learner profile instrument was developed to provide specific strategies to help learners increase their effectiveness in taking computer-based training (CBT) courses. The instrument prototype consisted of a survey and a learner profile. The survey assessed the learners' training needs and generated a customized learner profile with individual strategies for each learner. The prototype was tested at three different locates to determine if there was a relationship between the use of the suggested learner strategies and the learners' achievement scores. The findings of the experimental study revealed a significant difference between the achievement score percent of subjects who followed the learning strategies and those who did not. Time spent in the courses and the learners' rating of the usefulness of the training course did not vary much across the groups.
