About the Author
Wendell Frye was born in 1940. He received his BA degree from Clark University, his MA from Middlebury College, and his PhD from Indiana University. His field of specialization is German, and he is a Professor of German at Hartwick College.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Die ersten Fassungen der Studien-Erzählungen wurden zwischen 1840 und 1846 in verschiedenen Zeitschriften und Taschenbüchern veröffentlicht. In der historisch-kritischen Gesamtausgabe werden sie, entsprechend dem Ort ihrer Erstpublikation, als Journalfassungen bezeichnet. Da die Lieferung der Studien bereits 1844 erschien, sind Journal- und Buchfassungen entstehungsgeschichtlich derart verflochten, dass von einem 'Ur-Stifter' in biographischem und chronologischem Sinne nicht gesprochen werden kann. Der vorliegende Band korrespondiert nach Inhalt und Anordnung dem ersten Band der Studien. Buchfassungen (1,4 ff.). Als Alternative zur gewählten Gliederung wurde die Einreihung der Journalfassungen unter die Frühen Erzählungen (3,1) erwogen, doch hätte dies die Orientierung innerhalb der Ausgabe ungebührlich erschwert. Die Aufnahme in den Editionsbereich der Studien kommt zum einen der Parallellektüre entgegen, zum andern erlaubt sie die Einrichtung gemeinsamer Apparatbände (1,7/1,8) und eines Gesamtkommentars (1,9), wodurch sonst erforderliche Wiederholungen und Querverweise vermieden werden.
