Synopsis
Harry Powell, an interpreter disillusioned with his lot, falls under the spell of Alexy Geary, FRESCO’s alluring Senior Vice-President. After agreeing to offer his services in San Francisco, he finds himself entangled in a web of violence and intrigue.
It soon emerges that a maverick statesman - the French President Fouquet - is threatening to imperil the entire northern hemisphere with his grand designs for a new world order.
Before he knows what has hit him, Harry is pitchforked into the middle of an international crisis.
Complicated by wild cards in the persons of ageing Russian, Dmitri Zhukhovsky, a secret service operative with an agenda of his own, and French environmental activist, Philippe DuFresne, resolved to lay bare Fouquet’s true intentions, the outcome is on a knife’s edge.
Will the Soviet Union seize upon French brinkmanship as a pretext for sparking off World War III? Will the Pentagon jump at the opportunity to unleash its Star Wars laser technology? Fouquet's tactics risk plunging the industrialised world into nuclear conflagration.
