The second play in Aeschylus's classic Oresteia trilogy (the only surviving trilogy of greek tragedies). Years after the treacherous murder of Agamemnon, the late King of Mycenae, by his queen, Clytaemnestra, the god Apollo order's Agamemnon's son, Orestes, to avenge his father's death. Together with his cousin, Pylades, and his sister, Elektra, Orestes executes their plan. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of the Furies.
