Every child begs for "one more story" before bed.  Finally we have, clearly and gently defined by Carol Gray, The Last Bedtime Story. In tests, this has ended bedtime arguments within one night!  What parent doesn't want that? By clearly and warmly stating that this is The Last Bedtime Story, kids rest up while reading.  They know there are no more stories to be begged for.  They are reading the last one.  And Carol was very careful to make the book easy to read in less than one minute.  Short, sweet, reassuring, and to-the-point - this instant classic helps puts your kids to sleep. The biggest question that remains is - Why didn't anyone think of it sooner?

From the Author:

A Note to Caregivers

The Last Bedtime Story (That We Read Each Night) is designed to keep your child comfortable and in bed after lights out.  It is also to the answer to the request for, “Just one more story, please?”

Here’s how it works.  Each evening, you and your child select any number, kind, or sequence of bedtime stories.  Whatever you choose, The Last Bedtime Story is always added to the pile and read last.  In the sixty seconds that it takes to read it, this story closes each day with the same rhythmic and patient words, “It happens the same almost every night...”

There are many children’s bedtime stories.  Some of them describe the basic steps involved in getting ready for bed – for example, taking a bath, brushing teeth, and putting on pajamas.  This story breaks new ground.  It describes what happens in the critical moments between a child’s bedtime and that of the rest of the family, with a reassuring format developed to keep a child calm, tucked in, and on the way to a good night’s rest.

This story was written several years prior to publication.  In that time, several parents and caregivers have been surprised by its positive and immediate impact.  There is no claim that this story will send every child seamlessly off to sleep.  However, it may work for you and your child as it has for others.  The theory behind the informal success of this story is simple.  We all learn from stories; this one contains information that may be the difference between a child’s repeated attempts to reunite with those who are still awake or resting among favorite stuffed animals and blankets...and falling asleep.

Moms and dads are often a child’s escort through a child’s bedtime routine of brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, and reading bedtime stories.  There are times, though, when someone else serves in that role, like a babysitter, grandparent, or family friend. Like a child’s typical caregiver, these people also read the evening’s stack of bedtime stories, ending with THIS one.  At the end of this book, there is a place for each of them to sign on first reading.  Over time, their names will form a heirloom-quality list of key people in a young child’s life.

Our wish for you is many peaceful evenings and silent nights,

Carol and Jim
