About the Author:

Thomas S. Langston is professor and chair of political science at Tulane University. He has written books on both the American presidency, including With Reverence and Contempt: How Americans Think About Their President, and civil-military relations, including Uneasy Balance: Civil-Military Relations since 1783.

Review:

"Langston brings forth a very fresh analysis of the impact on the presidency of a drawn-out, undeclared "war" with no foreseeable end.... Includes an excellent bibliography and appendixes of notable figures and key events. Summing Up: Highly recommended. All academic collections supporting lower-level undergraduates through faculty/researchers; general readers." --Choice
