A high-seas adventure of the 17th century. Dr. Peter Blood, an Irish doctor, is wrongfully accused of treason in the aftermath of the Monmouth rebellion in 1685. He is sent to the island of Barbados in the Carribean to be sold into slavery. Blood eventually escapes with a number of other convict-slaves. He becomes a pirate and is driven by the urge to revenge his enslavement and to clear his name. Throughout his pirate days, he retains the same characteristics as before, such as honor, dignity, intelligence, and a quick wit.
