Map 01 - Walk to Helvellyn from Glenridding
At 950m, Helvellyn, the third highest peak in the Lake District, qualifies as a proper mountain. As such it makes for a pretty challenging ascent even for experienced walkers. There's more than one way to reach the top of this monumental peak; for thrill-seekers though, the ascent via Striding Edge remains a Lakeland classic. However you reach the summit, the payback on a clear day is the same - a panoramic vista that takes in most of the Lake District's greatest peaks.
Map 01 gives you a choice of the following routes:
- Route 1 - Striding Edge, 7.5 miles, 5 - 6 hours, Difficult
- Route 2 - Grisedale Tarn, 10.5 miles, 6 - 7 hours, Difficult
- Route 3 - Keppel Cove, 8.5 miles, 5 - 6 hours, Difficult
