Synopsis
In the UK alone there are 40,000 hip fractures per annum, and a similar number of joint replacements. For the minority of patients, recovery is uneventful, but for a significant percentage there are complications surrounding either the surgical procedures that are usually followed, or which arise in the post-operative period. This volume is one of a series whose objective is to present a picture of several challenging scenarios, illustrating a range of conditions "in the round". Thus, it emulates the structure of the case conferences at which referrals are discussed by specialists from several departments, and options for their management identified. The book is intended for postgraduate trainees in orthopaedic and general surgery and candidates for the Royal College of Surgeons Primary Examination and Board qualifications in the US and Canada. It should also be of interest to radiologists, rheumatologists and neurologists involved in the management of orthopaedic cases.
