Synopsis
Anita Straker has written a straightforward, practical guide for teachers using computers to support their work in the classroom. It also shows how, in the light of the National Curriculum, computers can be integrated into all areas of primary learning. Many activities are described and there are extensive examples of children's work. The book covers: the use of computers in handling information, the computer as a tool for problem-solving, the place of the computer in different aspects of the curriculum, how to use the computer in school policy and planning, the function of the computer in classroom organisation, how to involve parents and assessment and evaluation. The book can be read as a whole or in parts with the chapters taken in any order. The emphasis is always on the importance of children learning to control computers rather than on computers controlling children's learning.
