9781873166086: Get into the Bible: How to Study the Bible

Part 1 contains a complete overview of the Bible, showing how the various books relate to God's ongoing work of salvation. In particular, the development from the Old Testament to the New is explored in depth. Also, the use of charts clarifies how God's blessing is related to the events of salvation-history leading up to and following the life of Jesus, whilst worked examples apply the lessons to particular texts. Part 2 contains guidance on how to study the Bible more effectively, along with more worked examples.

Review:

One of the most comprehensive and enjoyable introductions that I have ever read. There is plenty there for the complete beginner, and for those who are further on down the line, and wanting to know more about the Bible, in language that is neither patronising, nor condescending. (St Mark's Parish Magazine, June 1999)

Richardson's excellent book will ... provide a valuable introduction for those who have neither time, energy or ability to master Geerhardos Vos' Redemptive History and Biblical Interpretation (Churchman, Vol 109, No 3, 1995)

"exactly what we've been looking for in our adult confirmation and baptism course"

"the approach to the Old Testament in particular is one that should help many people who find it bewildering and hard to accept as the Word of God"

"an excellent publication"

"it is rare to find a book that gives an overview of the whole Bible, but one of the advantages of this book is its brevity" -- Other readers reviews

From the Author:

I wrote this book to help ordinary Christians who have become bored or frustrated with Bible reading. It was therefore designed to be short, cheap and easy-to-read. There are bigger and more comprehensive works available on the same subject, but my booklet condenses the essence of these whilst hopefully motivating the reader to explore them in depth later.
