This delightful and charming family saga is set just after the Second World War. When Dickie Campbell returns to find that his home, like many other people in Camden, has been bombed by the enemy, his family are forced to live with his mother-in-law in a two-bedroomed flat. They are subsequently moved to a modern three-bedroomed house in the rapidly growing new town of Dagenham, in the county of Esssex. Degenham represents a new start for the Campbells, but the family experience difficulties in coming to terms with moving away from London, finding new jobs and making new friends. However, with all the family pulling together, they are able to see through the hard times.
