This book is especially written for drug addicts in long-term recovery who are struggling to develop emotional and spiritual well being. It is designed as a useful tool from day 1 of recovery onward, to help prevent the ever-present threat of relapse - addicts are always recovering, never recovered. An important part of effective recovery is grieving for the past. Addiction Recovery is addressed to all those who need to grieve past and present losses, from the results of one's own chaotic behaviour, to previous emotional trauma, bereavement, betrayal, abuse, and other kinds of emotional wounding. It has a focus on suppressed and frozen grief - that is, grief which may not be acknowledged or felt at the time but which, having previously found an expression in drug use, now continues to affect behaviour and feelings. Healing from both addictive behaviours and suppressed grief is by no means a bed of roses. When previously denied feelings begin to surface, through recovery work and/or life events, the pain can be intense, and without sufficient non-shaming support can often be overwhelming. This book aims to support emotionally wounded people through their journey of grief work, and to help them come to terms with feelings they may previously have found too difficult even to feel, let alone process. Addiction Recovery offers guided mindfulness meditations, written and verbal grief exercises, recovery case histories, and personal reflections of the author's own experience of processing decades of frozen pain.
