Andy Holian was born in Warrington, Cheshire and raised in neighbouring Wigan. After gaining a degree in Accountancy and Finance, he qualified as a chartered accountant. He took up a post as financial accountant with the Football League between 2001 and 2004, before moving to Bermuda as an account executive and finance director. Since 2007 he has lived in the Cayman Islands. Besides a passion for football his other interests include the theatre and travelling.
