Synopsis
This is a course book for Foundation Degree students who are support staff working predominantly in a range of educational settings. It focuses on professional, academic and vocational issues that are common to support workers across the school sectors and provides relevant guidance that responds to recent workforce developments, equipping Teaching Assistants (TAs) to undertake these roles and manage change effectively. This book makes links with the National Curriculum, reflects the revised HLTA standards and takes full account of the impact of Every Child Matters. This book also includes activities that develop practitioner skills in education built upon underpinning knowledge essential to higher levels of study in teaching and learning. It includes all aspects of standard professional practice for teaching and learning support, including pedagogy, subject knowledge, holistic approaches, inter-agency strategies and professionalism related to practical work-based experience.
About the Author
Anita Walton is Undergraduate Professional Development Manager at EdgeHill University. In this role she is responsible for Professional Development provision for Support staff and the Wider School Workforce. She has extensive experience of teaching on Foundation Degrees for teaching assistants and for the wider school workforce. In addition, Anita has experience as Programme Leader for the Foundation Degree in Supporting Teaching and Learning. Gillian is Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) in Teaching, Learning and Mentoring at Edge Hill University. She runs the level 3 programme for progression from Foundation Degrees in Supporting Teaching and Learning and Education and Training. She promotes, interviews and monitors recruitment and retention on this degree programme, monitors and assures quality of product and outcomes and student experiences, and staffs the modules.
