Attractively produced, it is ideal for the novice or the expert, with ideas and treatments, both simple and complicated, explained equally clearly. The book is full of lively illustrations comparing and contrasting different techniques and there are useful notes and recommendations thrown in for good measure.

The Complete Book of Paint is divided into four sections. The first covers preparation of surfaces, different materials, the sort of equipment needed and various recipes and techniques. Once you have grasped this (or if you are an expert anyway), move on to a fascinating section on simple finishes--from sponging, dragging and stippling to verdigris, bronzing and gilding. The third section introduces further decorative designs using paint and pattern and finally there is a range of ideas for decorating pretty well anything in the house.

Many of us think of paint in terms of matt emulsion, silk emulsion, gloss and satinwood. But we are seriously underestimating the power of paint and all its varieties according to this comprehensive sourcebook on the subject. Designing your own wall-colour and mixing it in your own home sounds complicated but the clear instructions in this book soon dispels any worry. Once the basic understanding is learnt of how the different paints and colours interact, you will discover a whole new world of paint. All possible techniques are illustrated and looked at - stippling, sponging, stencilling, crackle glazing, metallics and more. Techniques and tools are kept as simple as possible and the inclusion of a projects section make this an ideal resource for both beginner and professional alike.
