About the Author

One of the leading figures in nineteenth-century American literature, Henry James (1843-1916) was a novelist, playwright and literary critic who settled in England. His most famous works include 'The Portrait of a Lady' (1881), 'The Turn of the Screw' (1898) and 'The Golden Bowl' (1904). Colm Toibin is one of Ireland's leading contemporary writers. His latest novel, 'The Master' (2004), was shortlisted for the 2004 Man Booker Prize for Fiction, and in 2006 won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
