Review

If you're new to the Internet, you might find that, initially, you have problems with the unique culture and social conduct that has developed as Internet use has grown. To give yourself an insight into 'netiquette', a new book, 'Internet Culture in easy steps' by Josh Smith provides a concise guide to behaviour on the net. It explains how to converse both socially and in business using textual communications through a variety of different routes, for example, email, Internet relay chat, web sites, and web games. This book, which doesn't assume prior knowledge of the Internet, also provides a glossary of Internet buzzwords, guidance to real time communications, suggestions for conduct during debate or argument on the net, and advice on how to protect yourself on-line. -- OS Magazine, Spring 1999

From the Author

Answering all the questions you have yet to ask....
After writing this book, I felt like I never wanted to use the Internet again. Regular netizens take the communications revolution for granted, but once in a while it pays to take a step back and realise just how amazing the whole thing is. What is most amazing to me, however, isn't how these bits and bytes beep their way across the world, but the people, ideas and social philosophies behind them. That is what the Internet is really all about - and so is this book.
