An enchanting, romantic novel, set in a Berkshire village, where things were never quite what they seemed – and jumping to conclusions was bound to end in disaster.
Jemima Carlisle knows all about this. Being made redundant, with nowhere to live, made her jump in to country life, open a bookshop, and rent a room in the local vicarage.
But it isn’t quite the peaceful life that she expects.
The place was a centre for stables, with a couple of Grand National favourites – jockeys as well as horses – and Jemima has a very personal reason for hating the racing world. Her bookshop becomes the focus of a village drama, the vicar’s wife insists on sharing her secrets, and one of the jockeys is very persuasive in his attempt to alter Jemima’s views.
A Christina Jones novel is a total pleasure and those who read 'Going the Distance' will enjoy meeting some of the characters again.
