It is believed that these majestic dogs were transported to Ireland by the Romans where the dog has remained present for over 2,000 years. In the latter half of the 19th Century the breed had been successfully recreated, using stock related to the ancient Wolfhound. This breed is truly an affectionate and loyal breed which makes an excellent companion and effective guard dog. This is a marvellous calendar capturing on of the longest surviving breeds of dogs in the world.
