Three sisters – Three very different lives sharing one secret
Ellen, always caring, runs a billiards hall with her beloved Reg. Louise, selfish, cold and ever the social climber, has her eyes set on better things and heads for a new life in Australia with her businessman husband. The third sister, Lily, fair and fragile, having lost her feckless man to war, can barely cope with her two small daughters.
An unhappy compromise is reached and a secret pact is made between the three sisters. The two daughters are separated, one going with Louise to Australia the other staying with her mother. Their relationship remains a secret: neither knows that she has a sister.
Years later, the two young women are pitted against each other in the fight for the love of one man with heartbreaking consequences and which tear the families and the sisters apart.

'Three sisters; three very different lives'
Ellen, generous, funny and capable, runs a billiards hall with her beloved Reg. Louise has her eyes set on better things than the backstreets of Bolton, and heads for a new life in Australia with her business-man husband. And Lily, fair and fragile, having lost her feckless man to the war, can barely cope with her two small daughters.
But whatever problems they face, the solutions are in the family. Ellen has love to spare, so who better to lavish it on than her niece? Louise regards a child as a necessary accessory for her glamorous social position, and as for Lily, she's just plain grateful for whatever plans her sisters can devise. Yet this is not how the next generation sees it. By the time the world is turned inside out by the next war, two young women are set for the most dangerous and vicious of rivalries – and there can be only one winner.
In this latest saga from a favourite author, Alexandra Connor has created a heartwarming story of great drama, wit and authenticity.
