This collection includes 13 speeches given on some important occasions by former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide during his second term (2001-2004) and the one delivered upon his return from exile in South Africa. As a skilled orator, President Aristide uses vivid imagery, play on words, and figurative languages to convey his message. In an effort to retain the beauty and colorfulness of the Haitian Creole language, the editor provides a word-for-word translation of most of the play on words, proverbs, and expressions used by the president throughout these speeches. For greater clarity and cultural understanding, these idioms are defined and contextualized in an illustrative note section at the end of this book.
