Management problems are complex and cannot be fixed with a single universal solution. Particularly in healthcare, management is fluid; the right approach depends on a variety of ever-changing factors. Management of Healthcare Organizations: An Introduction provides an integrated approach to management that is applicable to all kinds of healthcare organizations. Author Peter C. Olden, a former hospital executive and educator, combines extensive real-world management experience with academic expertise to explain fundamental management theories, methods, and tools and how to apply them in healthcare. The book's content is organized into a logical sequence of chapters that build on and interrelate with each other, with concepts reinforced and brought to life by abundant case studies, examples, exercises, and data. Chapters on planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling performance in a healthcare organization are rounded out with practical discussions of decision-making, problem-solving, managing change, professionalism, and communication. This edition has been updated extensively with new or expanded information on these topics and more:Population health and the continuum of care Strategic planning Diversity and inclusion Leading and motivating people Performance improvement, Six Sigma, and Lean Emotional intelligenceWhether you are new to healthcare management or are looking to advance your career, Management of Healthcare Organizations: An Introduction teaches the fundamental principles and skills you need to successfully manage a healthcare organization.
