John Hendricks is the Founder and Chairman of The Discovery Channel and its parent company Discovery Communications which distributes television networks worldwide. Networks of Discovery Communications include The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, and the Science Channel. John Hendricks is also the founder and Chairman of Experius, an innovative enterprise designed to provide exceptional educational and recreational experiences to individuals with a lifelong curiosity about the world. Among his work to support non-profit organizations, John Hendricks is Chairman of the National Forest Foundation and he serves on the Advisory Board of the Lowell Observatory. Since the time of his first trip to Colorado at age 22 in 1974, John Hendricks has pursued his passion for landscape photography throughout his travels in the American West, Africa, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the Middle East. John Hendricks holds a BA in History (1974) and an Honorary Degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. A native of West Virginia, John and his family have a ranch residence in western Mesa County, Colorado, the subject area of his book The Canyons of Gateway.
