Synopsis
Poetics is a work by Greek Philosopher Aristotle that aims to give an account of what he refers to as poetry. Poetry in this case is made up of the lyric, the epos and the drama. Aristotle works to explain the first principles of poetry by discerning its different genres and elements. A large portion of this classic work is Aristotle's analysis of tragedy. Poetics is highly recommended for those who enjoy the writings of Aristotle and also fo those interested in the historic analysis of poetry.
