9781591792628: Pure Meditation (v. 3)

For 1,300 years, Tibetans have been practicing shamatha-vipashyana (peaceful dwelling-insight), a profound form of meditation that illuminates and purifies the obstacles to spiritual realization. Tibetan Buddhists today regard shamatha-vipashyana as both the fundamental and the most advanced spiritual practice of all.

On Pure Meditation, Pema Chödrön takes you step-by-step through this timeless and elegant meditative form. You will learn the posture that helps you relax your mind, how to use your own breath as a reminder to return to the present moment, and what to do with the many thoughts and emotions that arise during your meditation sessions.

A straightforward, authoritative resource for students at all levels, Pure Meditation is a definitive guide to the authentic Tibetan Buddhist meditation that has brought its practitioners relaxation, peace of mind, and deeper awareness for hundreds of years.

Book Description:

From the popular author of the San Francisco Chronicle bestseller The Wisdom of No Escape, Start Where You Are, and When Things Fall Apart ... millions of lovingly dog-eared copies of Pema Chodron's three bestselling books lie on America's bedside tables. Now, Pure Meditation brings listeners a long-awaited event. In her own words, this beloved American-born nun teaches the simplest, most profound practice of all -- the Tibetan Buddhist meditation of transformation and letting go. With the vibrant clarity, humor, and insight her students have come to expect from her, Pema Chodron takes listeners step by step through the three elements of meditation -- posture, breathing, and thoughts -- delivering a complete, three-hour training course that is ideal for beginners and a welcome refresher for more advanced practitioners. As an authoritative guide to Buddhism's fundamental practice, Pure Meditation is destined to become a cornerstone of Pema Chodron's body of work -- a collection already treasured throughout the English-speaking world.
