Review:

"It is rare that I read a book that moves me the way this one did...If you don't read any other book (besides mine), get this one!"

"After you've read it, pass it on...The Pact is a book that should never end up on a shelf because it is probably the most important book for African-American families that has been written since the protest era...Besides their personal stories, the doctors share practical steps that can be useful to a circle of friends in making their own pact...Get The Pact. It just may change a teen's future."

"They are an inspiration to young people everywhere, and their message is one that can transform the world."

"Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt, and George Jenkins--M.D., M.D., and D.M.D., respectively--are something more than the sum of their degrees."

"The Pact is their story, told simply and affectingly, about how they beat odds that many of us can hardly imagine. In their experiences are lessons for anyone who wants to help young people become educated and avoid the traps of poverty, drugs and crime...eye-opening and moving...The Pact is a lesson in the power of peers."

"While their story is sometimes tragic, sometimes funny and sometimes remarkable, it is always inspirational."

"Probably the most important book for African-American families that has been written since the protest era... GET THE PACT. IT JUST MAY CHANGE A TEEN'S FUTURE."

Book Description HIGHBRIDGE AUDIO, United States, 2002. CD-Audio. Condition: New. ; 5.75 Hours on 6 CDs ed.. Language: English . Brand New. George Jenkins, Sampson Davis and Rameck Hunt were three African American kids living in the inner city of Newark, all from broken homes, all living amid poverty, crime, and drug abuse. Two served time in juvenile detention centers. They met in high school and together they made a pact: they would support each other for as long as it would take for them to become doctors. Through an affirmative action program, they enrolled at Seton Hall University s premed program, from which they graduated in 1995. In May 1999, they graduated with degrees in medicine and dentistry. The Pact is an extraordinary testament to the power of male friendship. Friendships among young men often revolved around taking risks, often unnecessary or even dangerous risks. This remarkable story teaches the power of friendship and proves the wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King s proposition that amazing things happen when we stand on the solid rock of brotherhood. The three supported each other through high school, college, and medical school. Their success, which was due to unwavering, mutual support, shows that young men can help each other avoid trouble and fulfill their dreams by using their strong friendship as a powerful antidote to the temptations and pitfalls of inner-city life.
